Full Wolf Moon Tarot Reading (and Lunar Eclipse!)

While astrology isn’t exactly my strong suit, I do my best to follow the moon phases and planetary alignment. I can tell I am particularly in sync with the universe when I know what the sky is up to without any research. This is not one of those times, but as this lunar event has gotten closer my interest has increased. Today, January 10th, 2020, is the Full Wolf Moon in Cancer, and we will also experience an eclipse. Eclipses and the Full Moon phase both signify change and making room for new energy. The Full Moon is a time to set intentions and prepare to use the increased energy that follows to achieve your goals. This particular Moon is in Cancer, which is a highly emotional sign. The general advice for this lunar event and the days following is to be kind to yourself and those close to you. People may be a bit more sensitive than usual, so it is not the time to start arguments. It may be a good time to finish them, though! Making up with someone or apologizing for a previous conflict during this period could prove to be auspicious. Let’s dig a little deeper into this Full Moon energy! Below is a tarot reading for this very special Full Moon and Eclipse using the Dreams of Gaia tarot deck. It is a reading for the general energy of this lunar event, so if it doesn’t quite resonate with you, I recommend trying it for yourself. Feel free to share what you get if you do!
1. Illusion – WISDOM
The focal point or “illusion” of this full moon is Wisdom. We are being prompted to look within and see the unhealthy cycles and patterns that we fall into in order to break out of them. Shadow aspects are being illuminated so that we can heal them. When we trust our inner wisdom to guide us and help us heal and accept our weaknesses, we make room to accept our strengths and put them to good use.
2. Conscious- INTUITION
Currently our conscious mind is fixed on Intuition. We all have an intuitive voice that whispers to us, and whether we listen to that voice is completely up to us. However, ignoring that voice can lead to setbacks and complications that could have been avoided, had we heeded our intuition. This moon has our conscious focused on listening to our unconscious in order to do what is best for us going forward. Listen to that whisper, and see what wisdom it unlocks in you.
3. Unconscious- DEATH/REBIRTH
The Intuition card wanted us to heed the call of our unconscious mind. What is the message hidden there? One of my favorite cards, Death/Rebirth! When we begin to work on trusting our intuition and breaking the cycles we have clung to in the past, we will begin to see ourselves transform for the better. We will leave behind old habits and ideas, making room for new perspective. Notice the baby in the egg? He symbolizes the opportunity to remake a part of yourself, a chance for a fresh start! Of course the idea of change can be frightening. If you find that you are afraid to face the transformation, ask yourself this: what could go right? The tendency to fuel our fear is what stops many people from diving into something potentially beautiful. If you don’t like where the change leads you, there is no rule saying you have to remain on that path. Chances are high that your intuition is leading you somewhere great, though. Trust yourself!
4. Let Go- 3 OF AIR REVERSED
When shown upright, the Three of Air means education, apprenticeship, and studying. Reversed, it means being blissfully ignorant. We may have decided at some point that we have learned enough, and have stuck with the information and opinions from that moment on. Reversed cards are not always a weakness, but this one is. We are to leave that mentality in the past and allow ourselves to open up to knew information and ways of life. It fits so well in this reading. We are breaking all the old habits, and leaving behind a closed-minded, know-it-all mentality. Nobody knows everything. If this is something you struggle with, try to consider other information and opinions before dismissing them and see where it may lead you!
5. Embrace- MOTHER
The behavior we must embrace through all this change is that of the Mother. Through these big changes we are experiencing, we must be firm with our intentions yet remain gentle with ourselves. Remember the baby shown in the Death/Rebirth card? Just as we are the baby going through a time of growth and transformation, we must act as the Mother. Remember to take time to nurture yourself while you are working with your shadow. Speak kindly to yourself, and find ways to express plenty of self-love. Accepting our weaknesses and flaws is never easy, but we all must do it in order to grow. Remembering to be kind to ourselves can be difficult during this time, but you are worth it!
6. Outcome- 5 OF EARTH
The Five of Earth is our fate if we continue to ignore our intuitive guidance and refuse to break these old cycles. This spooky devil symbolizes the “easy way out” and that poor shadow behind him is our inner self. He is a trickster through and through, and if we continue a path of blissful ignorance we will keep falling for these tricks. In this case chances are that he is an aspect of the self, the part of ourselves that chooses to stay blind to any chance of change. Remember that the choice is yours! You can tune in to your inner wisdom and embrace the changes that await you. Otherwise, if you are perfectly comfortable with him guiding you, pick a comfy blindfold and follow the Five of Earth.
This reading was absolutely packed with useful tools and information! When we trust our inner wisdom and intuition, we will find all that we need in order to make necessary changes in our lives and our selves. We need to leave behind the idea that we already know everything there is to know. Whether it is about our own selves or things outside of us, there is always something more to learn. If we choose to follow the promptings of our inner guidance, we must remember to be kind and loving to ourselves. Take on the aspects of the Mother to take care of yourself during this transformational period. We can all find the balance necessary to grow into our full potential. I believe in you!
I hope you enjoyed this reading and found something that resonated with you. As stated before, feel free to try this spread yourself for a more personalized reading! Also, if you like these cards, you can order them from Amazon by clicking here, or clicking any of the captions under the card images! They are from the Dreams of Gaia Tarot deck by Ravynne Phelan. It is an untraditional deck, meaning they are not the typical cards found in the Rider-Waite tarot deck. These cards are especially useful for work on a personal level and realizing goals and what needs to be done in order to grow. I highly recommend these cards to anyone who practices tarot, or would like to start! They are beautifully detailed cards, and the guidebook is extremely informative.
